Down in the middle of Lajpat Rai Market, you will find us at Ambay Market, shop number 2287/5. The name is S Pvt Plastics, and as you can probably guess, we deal with a lot of plastic items. The market here is very tight, with stalls and shops pushed right up against each other. It is the kind of place where you have to watch your step so you don't trip over a bundle of goods sitting in the walkway. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with all kinds of plastic products, from buckets to storage bins and smaller household items. It smells like new plastic inside, which is something we have just gotten used to over the years. We spend most of our time climbing up ladders to reach things on the top shelves or helping people load their purchases onto the back of a cycle rickshaw. It’s a very loud environment with everyone shouting out prices and the sounds of the More Sarai Road traffic nearby. We don't have much room for a proper office, so we just have a small corner with a stool and a calculator. Every morning starts with moving a few things out onto the front step so people can see what we have, and then we spend the rest of the day navigating the narrow aisles with our customers. It is hard work but it keeps us busy from morning until the market shuts.
