It’s always crowded with people, lawyers in black coats, and folks looking for help with their legal troubles. My chamber is one of many in this huge complex, but it’s my own little space. It’s crowded with law books, case files, and heaps of paper that seem to grow every week. There isn't much room to move around once a couple of people are inside. We spend our days running between the chamber and the courtrooms, trying to keep up with the schedules. The hallways are always noisy with people talking and the sound of typewriters or printers going off. I’ve spent a lot of my life in this building, and I know every shortcut and tea stall around here. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s an important one. We deal with real problems and real people every single day. Most of my clients are people who have been coming to me for years or families I’ve known for a long time. There is a certain comfort in the chaos of the court. We don’t have time for fancy talk; we just focus on the files and the facts. Chamber 409 is where all the hard work happens, one page at a time, until the sun goes down and the building finally quietens.
