Ram Lal Gupta

My name is Ram Lal Gupta and I spend my working days at the Delhi High Court. Specifically, you can find me at chamber 166. It is quite a walk from the main entrance, especially when the halls are packed with people and everyone is in a hurry. I have been in this same spot for more years than I can count on my fingers. My chamber is pretty small and the shelves are completely loaded down with old law books and thick files that are starting to yellow at the edges. There is usually a layer of dust on the top shelves because I cannot reach them very easily without a ladder. The light in here isn't the brightest, but it is enough for me to read the fine print on the documents I have to go through every single day. Being at the court means you are always in the middle of some kind of drama, but I try to keep my head down and just focus on the task in front of me. I don't have a big team of assistants running around like some of the others do. Usually, it is just me and maybe one clerk who helps with the filing and the messages. We drink a lot of tea while we work, mostly getting it from the vendor who walks the halls with his kettle. It is a very formal place outside, but inside my chamber, it is a bit more relaxed. I just do the work.
