We operate out of the Allahabad Bank Building at No. 229, right by Ajmeri Gate. It’s an old building with high ceilings and thick walls. You have to climb a few stairs to get up to our office. The place is usually stacked with ledgers and samples of whatever we are trading that week. It’s a bit of a hub here. There are always people coming and going from the bank downstairs, so the stairs are never quiet. We have a couple of old ceiling fans that creak a bit as they spin around. They don't do much against the summer heat, but they help a little. Our desks are covered in notebooks and pens because we still like to write everything down by hand. It feels more real than just typing it into a computer screen. We’ve been at Ajmeri Gate for quite a while now. The noise from the traffic outside is constant, but you stop noticing it after the first hour of work. We usually share a tiffin lunch around noon and talk about the local news. It’s not a glamorous job. We buy things, we sell things, and we make sure the paperwork is mostly in order. Sometimes we lose a pen or a stapler in the piles of paper, but we always find it eventually. It’s just how we run things here. We don't need things to be perfect, just functional.
