Oberoi Batteries

Our shop, Oberoi Batteries, is situated at 8577 on the New Rohtak Road in Karol Bagh. It is a very busy spot with heavy trucks and cars passing by at all hours of the day. We deal with all kinds of batteries, mostly for cars, motorcycles, and those big power inverters people use at home when the lights go out. The shop smells like lead and battery acid sometimes, which is just a normal part of this job. I have been working here for many years, and most of my day is spent testing old, dusty batteries to see if they can still hold any charge at all. If a battery is completely dead, I just tell the customer straight so they don't waste time. We have stacks of new batteries in bright green and red boxes filling up almost all the shelf space. It is a small shop, so we really have to be careful where we step so we don't trip. Sometimes people come in because their car won't start nearby, and I have to go out with a jumper cable to help them get moving again. Karol Bagh is always loud and dusty, but you get used to the noise after a while. My hands are usually a bit greasy from handling the metal terminals and old wires. We keep one small stool for customers to sit on while they wait for their battery to be filled or checked. It is a place where we do practical, everyday work.
