New Freedom Battery & Electric Houses

The shop at E-367 in Lakshmi Nagar is where we keep all the heavy stuff. Being on Vikas Marg near Nirman Vihar means there is constant traffic and a lot of dust. New Freedom Battery & Electric Houses is basically filled from floor to ceiling with lead-acid batteries and different electrical parts. My back usually aches by the end of the day from moving those big inverter batteries around. It’s a very practical space with concrete floors and old wooden racks. We don’t really have a waiting area, so customers just stand near the door while we check their old batteries. The area is quite famous for electronics, but we just stick to our corner at E-367. Sometimes the power goes out in the whole block, which is ironic for an electric house, but we just use a torch and keep working. My father used to run a smaller place before we moved here to Lakshmi Nagar. It’s a bit messy with wires and terminals everywhere, but we know where everything is kept. We don’t use any fancy computers to track things, just a big ledger book where we write down what went out. Most of our day is just handling walk-ins who have a car that won't start or a home inverter that’s acting up. It’s a straightforward business without any bells or whistles. We just stay open until the market closes and then head home to rest for the next morning.
