New Delhi Bar Association

If you walk toward the India Gate and head into the Patiala House Courts, you will eventually find us. The New Delhi Bar Association is right in the middle of all that legal chaos. It is a very busy place to be. Every morning, you see lawyers in their black coats rushing around with bundles of files tied with red strings. The building is old and has that specific smell of old paper and ink. We don't have a quiet office where you can hear a pin drop. There is always someone shouting for a clerk or the sound of typewriters and printers going off. We spend a lot of time in the common areas talking about cases and waiting for hearings. The furniture is heavy and dark, and the walls are covered with notices and old photos. It’s not a place for someone who wants peace and quiet. We drink a lot of tea from the canteen and talk about the law and the city. It’s an honest way to spend the day, even if it is tiring and the fans barely move the hot air around in June. We are just a group of people working in the legal system, trying to stay organized in a place that always feels a bit disorganized. There is a lot of history here in these hallways, and we see it happening every single day we come to work.
