It’s a bit messy here at No. 99/2 in Mustafabad, but that’s how a wood shop usually looks when things are getting done. We have been here in Delhi 94 for quite a while now. My name is Asif and I run the place with a couple of helpers who know their way around a saw. We don’t have a big fancy showroom or anything like that. People just walk in or call us when they need a cupboard fixed or a new door made from scratch. Most days are loud because of the machines and there is sawdust on almost everything, including my tea cup sometimes. We just focus on the wood and getting the measurements right so things fit where they are supposed to go. It isn't always perfect on the first try but we stay until it is sorted out. Some people want heavy teak and others just want something cheap that holds up for a few years. We do both. I spend a lot of time looking at different planks of wood to see which ones are warped and which ones are good. It's a lot of manual work and my hands are usually pretty rough by the end of the week. If you come by the shop, you might have to wait a minute if I’m in the middle of a cut. We just keep busy and try to finish things on time for the neighbors who need furniture work done without a lot of fuss.
