Mohinder Singh Rekhi

If you walk down to Tis Hazari 274, you’ll find the spot where Mohinder Singh Rekhi is located. It’s a fairly old building and the entrance is a bit narrow. You have to watch your step because the pavement is uneven right in front of the door. Once you’re inside, it’s a different world from the busy street. It’s quieter, though you can still hear the rumble of the traffic. There are a few wooden chairs for people to sit on while they wait. The walls have some old calendars hanging on them that haven't been changed in a while. I spend most of my time behind the main desk. I’ve seen the street change quite a bit over the years. New shops come and go but we stay right here. It’s a steady kind of life. Sometimes the mailman brings letters for people who haven't lived in this building for ten years. We just set them aside in a pile. There is a small clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly when it’s silent. It reminds me of how much time I’ve spent in this one room. I know every crack in the ceiling and every squeak in the floorboards. It’s not much to look at but it serves its purpose for the work we do. People know where to find us when they need us. It is just a simple place for simple work.
