Madan Pal Singh

Madan Pal Singh is based out of Netaji Subhash Place 509. It’s one of those big buildings where you have to wait a while for the elevator during the lunch hour because everyone is hungry. Our office is on the fifth floor, room 509, and it’s a bit cramped if more than three people are in there at once. The windows look out over the parking lot and some of the other tall buildings in the complex. It gets a lot of bright light in the afternoon, which makes it pretty hot, so the air conditioner is always running in the background. We have stacks of files on almost every flat surface because there never seems to be enough shelf space for everything. Madan Pal Singh is usually at the main desk, while the rest of us move around doing different tasks throughout the day. It’s a busy environment but not in a stressful way, just steady work that needs to be done. People come in and out all day for various reasons, mostly locals from the area or people doing business in the same building. We’ve been here for a few years now, and we’ve gotten to know the security guards and the folks who run the tea stall downstairs. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but nobody really has the time to think about that. It’s just a practical place where work happens without much fuss or decoration.
