Laxmi Publication Pvt Ltd is located over in Tikuri Samahan on Maja Road in Allahabad. We’ve been printing and putting books together here for a while now. The building is more of a warehouse than an office, full of the smell of fresh ink and stacks of paper reaching up to the ceiling. It can get pretty noisy when the presses are running, and there’s always a bit of a scramble to get everything bound and packed on time. We aren't one of those big publishing houses with a fancy lobby in a skyscraper. We are just a group of people in Allahabad who know how to get books made. Sometimes the machines break down or a shipment of paper arrives late, and we all have to pitch in to get things back on track. Our desks are usually covered in proofs and red pens. We work with all sorts of writers, some who know exactly what they want and others who are just starting out. It’s a lot of back and forth, checking for typos and making sure the margins are right. We don't spend money on big ads because the work usually speaks for itself once the books hit the shops. It’s a bit dusty and the light isn't always great, but there’s something nice about seeing a finished book come off the line. We just keep our heads down and focus on getting the next batch out the door. It is honest work for us.
