Kumar

Kumar has been operating out of Kacha Bagh for a long time. Our spot is at 1544 S P Mukherjee Marg, right near the Lal Quila area. If you know Old Delhi, you know how crowded and hectic it gets around here. There’s always someone shouting or a rickshaw bell ringing outside the door. Our shop is small but filled with stuff from floor to ceiling. It’s a bit of a maze inside. We don’t really have a fancy showroom. Most people just know us and come straight to the counter. My father used to run things, and now I handle the daily bits. We keep the books in the back where it’s a little quieter. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we’re too busy to stop for that. It’s a lot of work keeping track of everything in such a tight space. We get customers from all over who find their way through the lanes to reach us. It’s hot in the summer because the old buildings hold the heat, but we have a good ceiling fan that helps. We just do our business, drink our chai, and talk to the regulars who come by. It’s how it’s always been done in Kacha Bagh. No big secrets, just staying open and keeping the inventory moving every day. It's a bit exhausting but we are used to it by now.
