I spend most of my day at Kalra Plastic, which is located at 20/3 in the Jacobpura area of Gurgaon H.O. It is a busy spot and the traffic outside never really seems to stop. My shop is filled with all sorts of plastic items, from heavy-duty buckets to small kitchen containers that people use every day. Sometimes the stacks get so high that it feels like the walls are closing in, but I know where every single piece is kept. I usually open the shop around nine in the morning after fighting through the crowd on the main road. The fan in the corner makes a clicking sound that I have been meaning to fix for months, but you just get used to it after a while. Most of the people who come in are locals from around Jacobpura looking for something cheap and durable. I don’t have any fancy displays or bright lights because the stuff we sell is just for practical use at home. Dust is a big problem here because of the construction nearby, so I am always wiping down the lids of the jars. It is a simple life and the work is repetitive, but it keeps me busy and I like talking to the regulars who stop by to complain about the heat. By the time I pull down the shutters at night, my arms are tired from moving crates, but the shop is finally quiet.
