If you know Delhi, you know Bengali Market is a busy spot. We are located on Todarmal Lane, specifically at number 8. It’s a bit of a maze back here, with narrow streets and cars always parked in tight spots. Jyotika Kalra’s office is right in the middle of all that noise. On a normal Tuesday, you can hear the sounds of the market and the people walking by outside. The office itself is usually cluttered with files and folders. We don’t have much room for fancy decorations because every shelf is taken up by papers. It feels like a real working space, not a showroom. Sometimes the tea man from the corner brings over a few cups, and that’s our break for the day. Dealing with clients in this part of the city means you have to be ready for anything. People drop in without calling, or the phone rings while we’re already in a meeting. It’s a bit chaotic but it’s how we like to work. Being in a historical part of the city like this gives the place a certain feel. The building is older, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We just sit here, get the work done, and try to keep up with the fast pace of Delhi life without making a fuss about things. It is just real work for real people.
