Our family business is located at Azad Market 287. This market is one of the oldest and busiest in the area, and we have been right here in this same spot for decades. The shop is tall and narrow, packed from floor to ceiling with wholesale goods. It is always a bit dusty because of all the cardboard boxes and the traffic on the road outside. We spend a lot of our time climbing ladders to pull down items for customers who come from all over the city to buy in bulk. We deal with a lot of regular traders who have been doing business with our father and grandfather before us. There is no air conditioning, just a couple of old fans that move the air around while we talk to people and tally up their orders. We still use a lot of traditional methods for our work, like keeping paper receipts and using a simple calculator. The street outside is usually blocked with handcarts and laborers carrying heavy bundles on their shoulders, so getting things in and out can be a bit of a struggle. We start our day early with a small prayer and then spend the rest of the time managing the stock and talking to suppliers. It is a noisy, crowded life in the market, but we are used to the rhythm of it. We don't have a website or anything like that; people just know our name and where to find us.
