Out in Chuna Mandi, specifically at Street No 1 near Hari Masjid, is where you’ll find J M D Plastic Works. We operate out of 218 1A, and it’s a place that stays pretty loud most of the time. The machines hum all day long, making various plastic items that people need. It’s a tight space, typical for this part of the city, and the air usually smells like warm plastic and machine oil. I spend most of my time on the floor, making sure everything is running okay and the molds are clean. It’s a hands-on kind of place. The walls have some stains from years of work, and the lighting isn't the best, but we know our way around. We get a lot of foot traffic from the street because it's so narrow, and sometimes we have to move our supplies just to let a rickshaw pass by. It’s a bit of a struggle to keep everything tidy when you’re producing so much, so there are usually scraps or boxes piled up in the corners. I started this place a long time ago, and it’s grown slowly, bit by bit. We don't have a fancy reception area or anyone to answer the phones in a professional voice. If the phone rings, I just wipe my hands and pick it up myself. It’s just us doing the work we know how to do every day.
