J C Kaushik can be found at Patiala House Courts, specifically at spot number 558. This is not your typical office building. It is part of the court complex, so it is incredibly busy and often quite loud. There are people everywhere including lawyers, clerks, and folks just trying to find their way around the legal system. Our space at 558 is small and functional. It is mostly just a desk and some chairs where we can talk. You get used to the constant hum of voices and the sound of typewriters or printers going off. It is a very specific kind of environment. The air is often thick with the smell of old paper and tea from the nearby vendors. Working in Patiala House means you are always in the middle of something. We do not have much room for anything that is not essential. Every inch of the space is used for files or books. It is not a place where you come to relax, that is for sure. We spend our hours here navigating the daily flow of the court. People usually come to see us because they have something important to deal with. We keep things straightforward and do not waste time on pleasantries that are not needed. It is a grit-and-grind kind of place. We have been at 558 for a long time and we know how the system moves here.
