We are located at Yojana Bhawan on Sansad Marg, which is a very central part of New Delhi. Our office is specifically for the Director of Planning Commission under the Govt Of India. Even though this is a very important building, our day-to-day life is quite ordinary. The hallways are long and lined with doors that all look the same. Inside our room, there are stacks of reports and maps everywhere you look. It’s a busy place with people always walking back and forth with files in their hands. The building has a lot of history, but to us, it’s just where we come to work every morning. The elevators are often full, so there's a lot of waiting around. We spend a lot of time checking data and making sure everything is correct. It is not a place for flashy decorations. We have simple desks and the usual office supplies. Lunch is often a quick affair at the canteen downstairs where the food is basic but good. The air conditioning works most of the time, which is a relief in the summer heat. We just focus on the tasks at hand and try to stay organized despite the constant flow of new information. It is a very matter-of-fact environment where we just get on with our business as best as we can. We try not to let the noise from the street bother us while we are typing up the new drafts.
