This Ernst Young office is located at C 3 141 in Janak Puri. It’s one of those spots in New Delhi where you really feel the pulse of the city every single day. We’ve been here for a while now, and the routine is pretty much set for the team. We arrive, get the systems running, and start going through the folders. It’s not the kind of place with a lounge or a gym; it’s just a workspace with plenty of light and a lot of cabinets for all the documents we handle. The street outside is usually busy with people going about their business, and you can always hear a horn honking somewhere in the distance. We try to keep things simple here. If a lightbulb goes out, we fix it ourselves. If we run out of stationary, someone just goes down to the local shop to get more. It is very hands-on and practical. Our desks are filled with the tools of the trade, mostly ledgers and printouts. The team here is small enough that everyone knows everyone’s name and how they take their tea in the morning. We don’t spend much time on big speeches or fancy presentations. Most of our energy goes into the spreadsheets and making sure the data is entered correctly. When the day ends, we lock up and join the crowd heading back to the metro station. It is honest work in a busy neighborhood, and that suits us just fine.
