Dharam Paul Hans Raj Mahajan

Azad Market is a place where you can find almost anything if you look hard enough. Our shop is at 257-A, near Chawri Bazar. The name on the board is Dharam Paul Hans Raj Mahajan, which is a bit of a mouthful, but everyone around here just knows us by our spot at 257-A. We deal in various goods and it’s mostly wholesale. The shop is filled with ledgers and old wooden furniture that has been here for decades. It feels like time moves a bit slower inside the shop compared to the chaos of Azad Market outside. There are always rickshaws and carts blocking the front, so we have to shout to get people to move so we can unload our stock. I spend a lot of time checking the lists and making sure the numbers match up. The ceiling is high and we have fans that hum all day long. Sometimes the dust from the market gets into everything, so we have to wipe the desks down every morning. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the prices of things. It’s a traditional way of doing business. No computers for everything, just pens and paper for the most part. We have stayed at this address because it’s where the trade is. Chawri Bazar and Azad Market are the heart of the city for us.
