Construction Skills

Construction Skills is located over at Vikas Marg on the Outer Ring Road. Specifically, we are in Gurunanak Nagar, Street No 14, at Wz 114. It’s a bit tucked away, so people sometimes get lost trying to find the right street number. This place is mainly about teaching people how to actually do things on a building site. We have tools lying around and some space for practice. It’s not a fancy school with air conditioning in every room. It’s dusty and noisy, but that’s how construction is anyway. We teach masonry, plumbing, and other basic things. The guys who come here are usually looking for a way to get better jobs or just learn a trade. I’ve been working here a long time and I’ve seen a lot of people come and go. Delhi traffic is a nightmare around the Outer Ring Road, so getting here in the morning is always a struggle. We start early before it gets too hot. There’s a tea stall around the corner where we all go for breaks. We don’t spend money on big ads or anything. People just find us through word of mouth. The building itself is an old one, and we keep having to fix the plumbing, which is ironic since we teach it. We just show people how to use their hands and get the work done right. It’s basic, hard work, but someone has to do it. We just keep our heads down and teach.
