Centre For Monitoring Indian Economy

Our workspace is at R 29 Lane No 1 in Ramesh Park, which is part of the Laxmi Nagar area in Delhi. If you know Laxmi Nagar, you know it is always humming with people and shops. We are tucked away in a lane that is a bit quieter but still feels like part of the action. We spend our time here watching the Indian economy and writing down what we find. The office is quite small and we have to be careful not to trip over the power strips on the floor. We have a lot of books on economics and stacks of newspapers everywhere. It’s a bit messy, but we know where everything is. The metro station is nearby, so some of us take the train to avoid the Delhi traffic. We usually get tea from the stall at the corner of the lane. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning in every room, but we make it work. We have been doing this for years and the routine is pretty set. We arrive, check the morning data, and then spend the rest of the day updating our files. It is honest work and we don't feel the need to dress it up with big words. We are just a group of people in a busy part of Delhi trying to keep track of the country's finances from our little corner.
