We operate out of Aruna Nagar, specifically in Gokhale Market at F-21-22. Even though the name says Calcutta, our daily life happens right here in this busy market. Dealing with batteries is heavy work and our backs feel it at the end of every day. The shop is filled with rows and rows of lead-acid batteries and smaller ones too. It can get a bit cramped inside with all the stock piled up. Gokhale Market is a frantic place with people shouting and vehicles honking all the time. We’ve been in these units, F-21-22, for a good number of years. There is no air conditioning, so we keep the fans running full blast during the summer. We mostly spend our time testing batteries or charging them up for customers who bring them in. It is dirty work and your clothes usually end up with some spots on them. We don't have a website or any of those modern things. People just know where we are and they come by when their battery dies. We have a small desk for the paperwork, but most of the space is just for the goods. It’s a basic business. We sell what people need to get their motors running again. When the sun goes down, we lock up the heavy metal gates and call it a day. It is a long walk to the bus stop afterward.
