Our shop, C D Pahwa & Sons, is located at 277-278 in Azad Market. It is a very old part of the city and it stays crowded from early morning until the sun goes down. My father started this business a long time ago, and now my sons and I are the ones running it. The shop is quite small for the amount of stock we try to keep inside. You’ll find boxes piled up almost to the ceiling. We mostly sell wholesale goods to other traders and people who come in from out of town. There isn't much room to move around, especially when we have a few customers in at once. We don't have any computers for our accounts yet; we still use the old-fashioned paper ledgers. It works for us. The noise from the street is constant, with rickshaws and carts always pushing past. We spend a lot of our day drinking tea and talking to the other shopkeepers nearby. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We don't have a website or do any advertising. People just know where we are because we’ve been here for so many years. It’s a busy life, and sometimes it gets a bit chaotic, but we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if it were quiet. We just try to be fair and keep things moving every day. It is just the way we have always done things.
