Our place is located in the old part of town at Hauz Qazi. You have to find Gali Bansi Koiley Wali to get to us at number 4033. It’s near Ajmeri Gate, which is always a chaotic place with rickshaws and carts everywhere you turn. We deal in textiles, so there are rolls of fabric everywhere you look in the shop. It’s dusty work and can be quite heavy when we have to move things around manually. The building itself is very old, like most of the structures in this part of Delhi. We’ve got shelves stacked high with different materials and colors. Most of the time, we are busy talking to people who need specific fabrics for their own small businesses. It’s a noisy market, and you have to yell sometimes just to be heard over the street sounds and the crowds outside. We drink a lot of tea to keep going through the long day. The light inside the shop isn't great because the lanes are so narrow that the sun doesn't reach down here much at all. We don't mind it though, it's just part of the job. We’ve been part of this textile circle for a long time now. It’s just how life is in Ajmeri Gate. We open up early to beat some of the heat and stay until the shutters go down in the evening. There’s no fancy display, just the cloth we sell and the records we keep in our big books. It's a busy life but it's ours.
