We work out of the Dominic Savio building, which is where we handle the local operations for American Express. It is a familiar spot for most of us, and while the address itself is quite short, the work we do here is constant. The building has an older feel to it, with thick walls and high ceilings that keep it relatively cool even when the sun is beating down outside. Our office space is filled with the usual things—computers, stacks of folders, and a few potted plants that someone brought in to brighten things up. We are a small group, and we’ve worked together for long enough that we don't really need to talk much to know what needs to be done next. It’s a quiet environment for the most part, except for the sound of the printer or the occasional phone call. We don't have any shiny logos or glass partitions. Everything here is built for utility. We spend our mornings sorting through the mail and our afternoons updating the system. When someone new starts, they usually comment on how relaxed the atmosphere is compared to other places. We just think of it as a practical way to spend our working hours. There’s no pressure to look like a big company office, we just want to get the day's tasks finished accurately and move on. The location works well for us and we've been settled in here for quite some time now.
