Sabhir Garments

Sabhir Garments is up here in Dehradun. It’s a good city to live in, and we like having our shop here. We don't have a fancy street address with a lot of numbers; everyone just knows where we are in our part of the neighborhood. The weather gets a bit cold in the winter, so we change our stock to keep people warm. In the summer, it's the opposite. We spend a lot of time just sitting by the door watching the clouds or talking to the other shopkeepers. Our shop isn't very large. It’s mostly just shelves from the floor to the ceiling filled with different kinds of garments. We don't have a big staff, just us family members taking turns behind the counter. Sometimes we forget to turn the sign around to "open," but people know to just knock. We get our clothes from suppliers we've known for years. We don't really trust the new flashy companies much. We prefer to see the quality ourselves before we put it on the shelf. There's always a bit of dust because of the road, but we try to keep the clothes clean and covered. It's a steady life. We don't expect to get rich, we just want to keep the shop going and serve the local people who come to see us. It isn't always exciting, but it’s our life and we wouldn't have it any other way right now.
