Daana Paani

Our place is located at number 1 on Ghat Road. It is an old area and the street can be quite narrow at some points. We have been here for some time now, just running things the way we know how. The air feels a bit different here near the water. We get a lot of travelers passing through, some carrying heavy bags and looking for a place to rest their feet for an hour. We keep things very basic inside. There are a few tables and some simple decorations we put up years ago that have faded a bit. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who do everything from the cooking to the cleaning and taking the money. Every morning starts with a walk to get fresh supplies from the local market. The weather can be a bit unpredictable, sometimes it's very humid and other times there's a cool breeze coming off the hills. We don't really bother with any marketing or big announcements. If people like the food, they tell their friends, and that's how we stay busy throughout the year. Sometimes the plumbing gives us trouble because the building is old, but we manage to fix it ourselves. It's a quiet life most of the time, except when the tourist season picks up and the streets get full. We just keep the stove lit and wait for whoever walks through the door. It is honest work and it keeps us busy.
