This is our school over in Nuapada. Cuttack is a big, busy city but our corner here is its own little world. We have been part of the neighborhood for quite some time now. It's a government school, so things follow a certain routine every day of the week. You'll see the kids in their uniforms walking down the street every single morning. The building itself has seen many seasons and shows its age in places. We have the usual classrooms and a playground that gets a lot of use during break time. It’s nothing too flashy or modern. We just focus on getting through the syllabus and making sure the students actually attend their classes. Sometimes the old fans make a lot of noise or the white chalk runs out, but we manage with what we have. The staff room is almost always full of tea cups and stacks of notebooks waiting to be marked. We have parents coming in and out for quick meetings or to pick up their children after the bell. It’s a steady rhythm that we’ve grown used to. We aren't trying to be the most modern place in the world, just a reliable school for the local families. The bells ring on time, or at least we try to make sure they do. We keep the gates open during the day and lock up tight in the evening. It’s a simple operation with no big secrets. Just teachers teaching and kids learning in Cuttack.
