Janaki Moharaj Food

Our shop, Janaki Moharaj Food, is tucked away in Banka Bazar in Cuttack. If you’ve ever walked through Banka Bazar, you know how narrow the lanes are and how busy it gets with all the shops squeezed together. We don’t have a large storefront or a big sign with bright lights. It’s just a small space where we do our cooking and serve whoever comes by. Cuttack is a city that loves its food, and we are just one of many local spots in the neighborhood. We don’t really have a lot of room for people to sit down and eat comfortably, so most of our customers just stand or take their food to go. The kitchen is always a bit cramped, and it gets quite hot when we have everything running at once. We spend our mornings getting the spices ready and making sure we have enough of everything for the day. There isn't any fancy staff here; it’s mostly just family and a couple of helpers. We don’t use social media or do any kind of promotion. People find us because they are already in the market or because they’ve been coming here for years. It’s a lot of manual work and the hours are long, but we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of it. We just keep our heads down and focus on getting the daily tasks done before the market finally shuts down for the night.
