Jai Hind Metal Stores

Down here in Jaigaon, things stay pretty green because of the Jalpaiguri rain. Jai Hind Metal Stores is located right on H M D Road. It’s a basic building with a lot of metal stacked up inside and out. We handle all sorts of metal goods that the local builders and farmers need. The road outside can get a bit muddy during the monsoon, but we manage to keep the trucks moving. We’ve been part of the village life for quite some time now. Most of our days are spent weighing things and moving heavy sheets of metal around. It’s physical work, and by the end of the day, we’re usually pretty tired. We don't have a computer system that’s very advanced, so a lot of the notes are kept in big ledgers by hand. It works for us, and we haven't seen a reason to change it yet. The shop is a bit of a landmark for people heading into the main part of the village. Sometimes the cows from the nearby fields wander onto the road, and we have to shoo them away so the deliveries can get through. We don't do anything flashy here. It’s just about having the metal people need when they need it. We know most of our customers by their first names because they’ve been coming here for years. It’s a quiet life, but we stay busy enough to keep the doors open.
