Diya Steel

Jaigaon is a busy place, especially around N. S. Road where we are located. Diya Steel isn’t hard to find if you are walking near the Postp.S. area. We have been working out of this spot for a good while. The noise from the street is constant, with people and vehicles moving back and forth all day long. Steel is very heavy and it certainly doesn't move itself, so we spend a lot of our time loading and unloading the stock. It is the kind of work that makes your back ache by five o'clock. We don’t have any fancy displays or a big showroom with lights. It is just us and the metal. Most people who come in are local builders or guys working on their own homes. We talk about the thickness of the sheets or the length of the rods they need. Sometimes the rain makes everything damp and we have to cover the stock quickly to keep it dry. N. S. Road gets quite muddy during the monsoon season, which makes moving the heavy steel even harder than usual. We just keep the gates open and wait for the next person to stop by. It isn’t a complicated life here. We know the other shop owners on the street and we share a quick word when there is time for a break. By the end of the day, we are just ready to lock up. (249 words)
