Webcot

Webcot is based in Rayarthottam, which is part of the Kannampalayam area in Sulur. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city, and the roads can be quite bumpy, especially after it rains. We work with textiles and webbing here. The sound of the machines is the main thing you notice when you walk in. It’s a steady, rhythmic thumping that goes on all day long. The air is often filled with a bit of cotton lint, but we’re used to it after all these years. Most of the people working here live nearby, so it feels more like a local workshop than a big factory. We don’t have a fancy showroom for people to browse. If someone wants to see what we make, they just come into the back where the looms are running. It’s not the cleanest place, as there’s always grease on the machines and thread on the floor. We spend a lot of time just making sure the tension on the machines is right so the fabric comes out okay. Sometimes a loom acts up or breaks down and we spend the whole afternoon covered in oil trying to fix it. We don't have a big sales team; people just know we are here and they come to us through word of mouth. It’s honest, steady work. We just want to keep the machines running and the orders moving. It’s a practical environment where we focus on the task at hand.
