Vinayaga & Company is right here at 57 Sundarapuram on the Madukkarai Road. It’s a busy spot. There is always a lot of noise from the traffic passing by toward the city. We’ve been at this location for years. Most of our day is spent talking to people who stop in for supplies. The building is older, and it has that specific smell of storage and metal. We don't have fancy lights or a big display. We keep things on shelves and in the back room where it's cooler. My father started things here and now we just keep it going. You might find us sitting near the entrance reading the paper when it’s quiet. But it isn’t quiet for long. Someone always needs something. We write everything down in big ledger books because computers can be a bit of a headache sometimes. Madukkarai Road is always moving. We see the same faces every week, mostly local builders and guys from the neighborhood. We don't do much in the way of sales talk. We just tell you what we have and what it costs. It’s a plain way of doing business. If the rain comes down hard, we have to move some of the stock inside quickly so it doesn't get ruined. It's just a regular local shop where we try to stay busy and keep the doors open from morning until dark.
