We set up our office at 96 Bharathiyar Street. It is a busy little area, and we fit right in with the other shops and houses. Thulir Virutcham is basically just a group of farmers who wanted to have a bit more control over how we sell what we grow. We spend most of our time talking to members and trying to figure out a way that works for us to move our produce. You won’t find any polished sales pitches here. We are more likely to be wearing work clothes than suits. Some days the phones don't stop ringing, and other days we are all out in the fields and the office stays quiet. It is a practical arrangement. We started this because we were tired of how hard it was to get things done individually. Now, we share the load. The building on Bharathiyar Street is where we keep our papers and meet up to make decisions. It’s a local effort, through and through. We know the names of everyone who brings their stuff to us. There have been times when things didn't go as planned, but we just fix it and keep moving. We are part of this neighborhood, and our work reflects the reality of farming in this region. It’s not always pretty, but it is real. We just do the work that needs doing, day in and day out, without making a big fuss about it.
