Sri Vigneswara Vegetable Commission Mundy is a place that really wakes up long before the sun is even thinking about rising. We are in the middle of all the vegetable crates and the shouting of the auctioneers. Farmers bring their loads of vegetables from all over the hills and the nearby plains. Our job is to help get those vegetables sold to the retailers and wholesalers who show up in their small tempos. It is a very wet and earthy place to work. You have to watch where you step because there are cabbage leaves and mud everywhere. We don't have fancy offices, just a small desk and some stools where we sit and write down the weights and the prices. The air is always cool in the mornings but it gets hot once the trucks start leaving. We deal with a lot of different people every day and you have to be quick with your math. Sometimes the prices for tomatoes or onions go up and down like crazy and everyone is arguing. We just try to keep things fair and keep the flow of produce moving so nothing rots in the sun. It is a hard way to make a living but it is what we know. The market is our home and we've been here for many years.
