Sakthi Impex

If you find yourself near the railway gate in Somanur, you’ll see the Jaisakthi Rice Mill Compound. That is where Sakthi Impex is located. It is an interesting spot because you can hear the trains passing by at all hours, and the air often smells like processed grain from the mill next door. We share the compound space, so there are always tractors and lorries moving around, which keeps us on our toes. Our part of the building is mostly used for sorting and keeping records of the items we trade. It isn't a modern office building with glass walls. It’s more of a functional space with concrete floors and high ceilings. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers and making sure the transport is lined up correctly. Sometimes the railway gate stays closed for a long time and traffic piles up, which can be annoying when we are waiting for a delivery. We just take it in stride. We are a small crew and we don't have a lot of hierarchy. Everyone chips in with the loading or the typing depending on what is needed most that hour. We don’t have any fancy mission statements on the walls. We just have a calendar and a list of things to do. It's a busy, dusty, and honest way to spend the day in Somanur, and we have been doing it this way for quite a long time now.
