Sekar Engineering Works

Down at E-79 in the Sidco Industrial Estate in Kurichi, the days start early before the sun gets too high and makes the metal roof too hot. Sekar Engineering Works is basically a large shed filled with lathes, grinders, and welding gear. It’s not a quiet place by any means. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the hum of the cooling fans. We’ve been in this part of Kurichi for years, and we’ve seen the industrial estate change quite a bit around us. Our space at E-79 is usually a mess of iron scraps and half-finished parts, but we know exactly where everything is. We don't have an office staff; we just handle the work as it comes in from the local factories. Most of our clothes have little burn marks from sparks, and our boots are always dusty from the estate roads. During the lunch break, we usually sit outside on some old crates just to get a bit of fresh air away from the machines. It’s hard work and it’s often dirty, but there is something good about making things with your hands. People find us because they know we are here at the back of the estate. We don't need a big sign or a fancy website. The work we do for the neighboring units keeps us going month after month without much fuss or any corporate polish.
