Door Park

If you head down to No. 78 Sir Shanmugam Road in R. S. Puram, you’ll find Door Park. It’s exactly what the name suggests—a place full of doors. We have them lined up all over the shop. The smell of wood is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We’ve been here in R. S. Puram for quite some time, and Sir Shanmugam Road is a familiar path for us every morning. Most of our day involves walking people through the different types of wood and finishes we have. It’s not a high-pressure environment. We just let people look around and answer whatever they ask. Sometimes the hinges squeak or a door doesn't sit quite right in the display, and we have to fix it on the fly. It’s a very hands-on job. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing department. We just have our shop and the work we do. The guys in the back are usually busy with a plane or a sander, so there’s often a bit of noise. We like it that way. It feels productive. R. S. Puram is a great neighborhood, and we see a lot of the same faces passing by. We keep things simple and honest. If a door isn’t right for a certain spot, we’ll say so. We’ve spent years learning the difference between various grains and weights, and we just share that with whoever walks through the door.
