The United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd.

We are located at No. 3 Savithri Shanmugam Road, right over in the Race Course area. It’s a nice enough spot, though the traffic can be a bit much during the rush hours. Our business is all about tea from the Nilgiris. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the estates and making sure the leaves are moving along the right path. It’s a lot of coordination. You wouldn’t think tea takes this much paperwork, but it really does. The office stays busy with phone calls and people coming in to check on shipments. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. We just know tea and we’ve been around it for a long time. The smell of the samples in the room is probably the best part of the day. We have stacks of files and ledgers that show how many bags are coming and going. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there talking until it comes back on. It’s a relaxed atmosphere mostly, but we do get focused when a big deadline is coming up. We don't have those fancy marketing teams. We just have a few people who have been doing this for years. It’s steady work and we like it that way. We just keep the tea moving from the hills to wherever it needs to go next. It takes a lot of hands to get the product from the mountain down to the cup, and we are just one part of that chain.
