Pollachi Women Dairy Farmers Producer Company Limited

We started Pollachi Women Dairy Farmers Producer Company Limited because a group of us in the Ponnayur area were all doing the same work with our cows but separately. Our office is at D No 3/31B, right here in Nallathukuli. It is mostly women from the village who handle the daily chores, milking early in the morning and making sure the animals are fed. We decided it made more sense to work as a group. Dairy farming is not easy, especially when the weather gets hot or the feed prices go up. We spend a lot of time talking about how to keep the cattle healthy and how to get the milk to where it needs to go without it spoiling. It is a local thing. People around here know where we are. We don't have a big fancy office or anything like that, just a regular place where we meet up to talk about the collection schedules and the payments. Some days are busier than others, especially when we have to sort out the paperwork for the producer company stuff. It gets a bit complicated with all the rules, but we manage. We just wanted a way for the women here to have a bit more control over what they do every day. If you are passing through Nallathukuli, you might see us around. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done, just now we have a proper name on the door and we try to help each other out when things get tough with the farm work.
