Down in Perumpathy Village, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We are Perumpathi Dairy Producer Company Limited and our place is at Door No. 9/59. Pollachi is known for being quite green, but it’s still hard work running a dairy. Most of us here have a few cows and we decided to put our resources together. It’s mostly just us locals looking after the animals. The morning starts really early, usually before the sun is even up, because the cows don’t wait for anyone. We spend our time cleaning sheds, feeding the cattle, and making sure the milk is handled right. Coimbatore is a while away, so we mostly stick to our own area. The office isn't much to look at, just a room where we keep track of who brought in what. Sometimes the weather gets too hot and the cows get stressed, which means we have to work even harder to keep them comfortable. It’s a lot of physical labor and your clothes usually smell like the farm by the end of the day. We aren't doing this to get rich quick or anything. It’s just how we live and support our families in the village. We talk about the rain and the price of feed more than anything else. It’s a simple life but it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk.
