We’re based out of Muthuramalingathevar Nagar at No. 72/7. Unlike the farming groups around here, we focus on the water. Jothi Linga was started to help out the local fishermen. The sea is a hard place to make a living and it’s even harder when you’re doing it all by yourself. We put this producer company together to help with the nets, the boats, and getting a better price for the catch. Our place is usually smelling a bit like the ocean, which is just how it is. We spend a lot of time down at the docks or fixing things at the shop. It’s a noisy, busy kind of life. We don’t have much in the way of a fancy office. It’s mostly just a spot to keep the books and meet up after the boats come in. Everyone knows everyone’s business in the Nagar. We talk about the tides and the wind and where the fish are running. It’s not a job for everyone. You have to be okay with early hours and long days in the sun. We try to make sure everyone gets a fair shake. There are no big bosses here, just people who know how to handle a boat and a net. We take the good days with the bad. It’s a steady enough life if you’re willing to put in the effort and respect the water.
