You can find us over on Chettipalayam Road in Palladam, which is right in that busy stretch between Tirupur and Coimbatore. Our group is called Global Coconut Farmers Producer Companylimited. The name sounds big, but we are really just a bunch of people who have been around coconut trees our whole lives. We work out of house number 39 and it’s usually a hub of activity with trucks coming and going. Coconuts are a huge part of life here, and we spend most of our time dealing with the realities of growing them. That means worrying about pests, the price of coconut oil, and the lack of rain when it matters most. We aren't some polished business with a lot of slogans. We are just farmers who realized that if we pool our resources, we can handle the market a bit better. Our meetings are usually informal, held over tea, where we discuss the practical problems we are facing. Sometimes we are out in the groves checking on the trees, and other times we are at the center organizing the loads. It is a lot of physical labor and staying on top of the numbers. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the coconut growers in the Palladam area can keep their farms going for the next generation. It’s basic, honest work that keeps us busy all year round. We just do our best with what the season gives us.
