You can find Gem Paints Limited over at number 7 in Rajalakshmi Nagar, which is part of the Lakshmipuram area in Peelamedu. This part of Coimbatore has changed a lot over the years, but we’ve kept our focus on the paint business. Our building is easy to spot if you are familiar with the landmarks around here. Inside, it’s mostly stacks of cans and color charts scattered on the counters. We deal with all sorts of paints, and the air always has that distinct sharp smell of fresh chemicals and pigment. It isn't a silent workplace; there is always the sound of cans being moved or someone mixing a specific shade for a walk-in customer. We have a small group of people working here who know the difference between one finish and another just by looking at the lid. We don’t spend money on glossy brochures or big TV ads. Most of the people who come to us are local painters or homeowners from Peelamedu who just need a few buckets to finish a room. Sometimes we run out of a specific base and have to wait for the next delivery, which can be annoying, but that’s just how the supply chain goes sometimes. We try to keep the floors clean, but with paint, there is always a spill or a drip somewhere that reminds you of what we do for a living. The shop isn't fancy, but it gets the job done and we keep at it.
