Our office is on Kamarajar Street in a place called Gramam, which is in Tirukkoyilur. Ellavenil Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited is basically a group of farmers from around the Villupuram area. We are at number 4/25. It’s a small street and everyone knows each other. We spend a lot of our time sitting around the table trying to figure out how to get better prices for our crops. Farming is tough these days with the weather being so unpredictable. One week it’s too dry and the next it’s pouring rain. We don't have a big staff or anything like that. It’s just a few of us who take turns being in the office while the others are out in the fields. We started this because doing everything alone was getting too difficult. Now we can buy seeds and things together, which helps a bit. The office is pretty basic, just some old chairs and a lot of registers. We don’t have any fancy marketing people. We just talk like regular neighbors. Sometimes the meetings go on for a long time because everyone has a different opinion on what we should plant next. It’s not a polished business, but it’s ours. We just want to make sure the farmers in this part of Tamil Nadu can keep their land going for another year.
