Our place, Cocovalley Coir Producer Company Limited, is located at No.3/233/E in Indra Nagar, right off Dharapuram Road. If you live around here, you know how much coconut we have. We decided to do something with the coir because it seemed like a waste to just let it sit around. The machines can be pretty loud and the dust from the fiber gets everywhere, so you’ll usually see us covered in it by the end of the shift. It’s not the cleanest job, but it’s what we do. We’ve been at this for a while now. The location on Dharapuram Road is pretty convenient for getting trucks in and out, though the traffic can be a real pain sometimes. We started this company because we wanted to see if we could make something useful out of the stuff other people throw away. Most of us are just local people from Indra Nagar who needed work that made sense. We don’t have a lot of big fancy words for what we do. We just take the husks, process them, and see where they can go. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and sweating, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof. We try to keep things moving steadily, but sometimes a machine breaks or the power goes out, and we just have to wait it out and start again later. That is just how the coir business goes for us day in and day out.
