Bright Neon

The shop is at 1/32, Vkn Thottam in Ramakishana Nagar. It’s a small corner of TVS Nagar where we spend most of our daylight hours. We work on neon signs and different types of lighting. It’s not the cleanest place because there’s always glass tubing and wiring lying around. We’ve been here for quite some time now, watching the Velandipaliyam area grow up around us. It’s mostly manual work, bending the glass and filling it with gas. It takes a steady hand and a lot of patience. Sometimes the tubes break and you have to start all over again. That can be frustrating, but it’s just how it goes. My brother and I run the place. We don’t have a big staff or a fancy office. It’s just a workshop with a couple of benches and old tools. We get a lot of local shopkeepers coming in. They want something that stands out at night. We don’t use flashy advertisements to get business. People just see our signs on the street and ask who made them. The weather gets hot in Edayarpalaym, so we do most of the heavy work in the early morning. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to make signs that work and look right. It’s a simple life, and we like being part of this neighborhood.
