Kovai Medical Centre And Hospital has been sitting out here by the Civil Aerodrome Post for a long time. Our mailing address is PB No. 3209, but most people just know where we are because of the planes nearby. Working this close to the airport means we hear the engines a lot during the day. It is a big building, and sometimes even the staff gets a little turned around in the back hallways. We started out with just a few beds and now it has grown into this whole complex over the years. It is a lot to manage on a daily basis. On a typical afternoon, the waiting areas are full of families and people just waiting for news. We try to keep the chairs comfortable, but they get a lot of use. The lights never really go out in this place. There is a night crew that takes over when the sun goes down, and they have their own way of doing things. We do not have a bunch of fancy slogans or anything like that. We just focus on the patients and making sure the equipment is plugged in and working right. Sometimes the elevator takes too long, so we just use the stairs. It keeps us moving. We have seen a lot of changes in the area, but the hospital stays pretty much the same. We just do the job and go home.
