Associated Container Line Pvt. Ltd. operates from 303, Wavoo Mansion, over at 39 Rajaji Salai. Being on Rajaji Salai means we are right in the thick of things, especially with the port being so close. You can always hear the horns of the trucks and the general bustle of the shipping district. Wavoo Mansion is an older building with a lot of stories, I’m sure. Our office is on the third floor. It’s a functional space where we track containers and deal with all the paperwork that comes with moving goods. It’s not a glamorous job. There’s a lot of waiting for news and then a lot of rushing once things start moving. We have a small team here who knows the ropes. The salty air from the sea sometimes makes everything feel a bit damp, but that’s just part of being in this area. We don’t have any slick presentations or fancy slogans. We just know that the ships don’t wait, so we can’t either. The office has a lot of stacks of paper and maps pinned to the walls. It feels like a place where real work happens. We drink a lot of tea and spend a lot of time on the phone. It’s a simple, honest way to earn a living in the heart of the maritime district. We are just one of many offices in the building doing our bit. The elevator can be temperamental, but the view of the street below is always active.
